| Audubon members are often asked what makes our journeys so unique. It is a good question that often requires some thought to explain the emotional and intellectual effect these adventures have on us. Each trip is a separate story with varied points of view allowing every traveler to internalize the complexity and beauty of Mexico’s landscapes, whether it’s walking around the Lake Patzcuaro area, hiking the Monarch butterfly trail in the Rosario Reserve, or exploring the beaches and lagoons of Oaxaca.
Audubon’s commitment to traveling with small groups allows us to visit areas seldom seen by large-group tourists. We are given an opportunity to slip into the flow of local life and get as close as possible to nature, providing spontaneity and camaraderie. We often take meandering routes and intriguing detours permitting us to enjoy traveling at a slower pace and exploring local culture in depth.
UNESCO declared 2012, The International Year for Sustainable Energy for All;
Sustainability is exactly the philosophy behind our trips. We invite you to start this year enjoying one of the tours that we have prepared specially for you ! |

AUDUBON’S INSIDE LOOK
Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve |
| October 25-29; 2012 |
Audubon will take you for an inside look at this remarkable reserve. We’ll take side routes to remote and spectacular sights, as well as visit the unique Franciscan missions dotting the region. The trip includes hiking along the ridge of Cuatro Palos. We’ll bird watch along the Ayutla River, in the tropical hills of Conca, and by a dam in Jalpan. We’ll make our way through mountains filled with fir and pine forests, as well as hills of cacti forests. The Conca area, although centrally located, is the lowest in elevation in the reserve and is a subtropical zone. We’ll descend eastward down the mountains to the remarkable Edward James Gardens, Las Pozas, located outside the tropical town of Xilitla. There, we’ll stay at a beautiful small Bed and Breakfast next to the site, allowing us plenty of time for birding in the early morning and evening, with visits to the garden during the day.
